Ballyhoo · Portland, Oregon
Ballyhoo shows community events happening around Portland. It needs no account and collects nothing about you, so most problems come down to the event data itself rather than anything stored on your device.
The fastest way to reach a person is to open an issue at github.com/ryangurn/ballyhoo/issues. You do not need to know anything about code to file one — describing what you expected and what you saw is enough.
Ballyhoo does not create event listings. It reads published calendars from around ten Portland sources and shows what they say. So if an event has the wrong time, the wrong venue, or a price that does not match, the original listing almost certainly says the same thing.
Every event in the app links back to where it came from, and the Sources tab lists each calendar we read along with when it last updated successfully. That is the quickest way to tell whether something is a problem on our side or upstream. If a listing is correct at the source but wrong in the app, that is a bug worth reporting.
Events are gathered on a schedule rather than live, so the feed reflects the last successful run rather than this moment. Pull down on the Discover tab, or use Refresh now on the Sources tab, to fetch the latest published file. The Sources tab also shows when the feed was published, which tells you whether the app is holding an old copy or the data itself has not moved.
Ballyhoo needs a network connection to download the event feed. If the list is empty, check that filters are not excluding everything — the Discover and Map tabs share one set of filters, so a category chosen on one applies to the other. Clearing filters and refreshing resolves most empty screens.
Portland has far more calendars than the app currently reads, and suggestions for good ones are welcome, particularly neighborhood associations, libraries, colleges, and venues that publish their own schedules. Open an issue with a link.
Ballyhoo has no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. The privacy policy covers what the app does and does not do, including the third parties that inevitably see a request when event artwork loads.
