Privacy Policy

Ballyhoo collects nothing about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is reported to anyone, including us.

That said, an app that shows you events has to fetch those events, and fetching things over the internet is never entirely invisible. This page explains exactly what leaves your device and who can see it, because "we collect nothing" on its own would be a half-truth.

What is stored on your device

When you save an event, the app records that event's identifier in your device's local preferences. That list never leaves your phone, is not backed up to any server we control, and is deleted when you delete the app. It contains identifiers only — nothing about you.

What leaves your device

The app makes network requests for four reasons. In each case the other party can see your IP address, as they can for any website you visit.

• Fetching the event list. The app downloads a single public file from GitHub Pages at ryangurn.github.io. It is the same file for every user and contains no request for information about you. GitHub receives standard web-server log data.
• Loading event images. Event artwork is hosted by whichever service published the event, so images load directly from those hosts — currently img.evbuc.com (Eventbrite), res.cloudinary.com, s1.ticketm.net (Ticketmaster), images.squarespace-cdn.com, and a small number of venue websites. Each of those hosts sees your IP address when one of its images loads. We do not proxy or re-host images.
• Placing a venue on the map. Some event listings give a street address but no coordinates. To show a map for those, the app asks Apple's geocoding service to convert the address into a location. Apple receives the venue address — not your location, and not anything about you. This happens only when you open an event whose venue needs it, and the result is reused for the rest of that session. Apple's handling of that request is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.
• Getting directions. Tapping directions opens Apple Maps with the venue as the destination. From that point you are in Apple Maps, under Apple's privacy policy.

Links to other sites

Each event links back to the site that published it. Opening one leaves the app, and that site's own privacy practices apply. We have no relationship with those sites beyond reading their public event listings.

Location

The app never requests access to your location and cannot determine where you are. The map is centred on Portland for everyone.

Children

The app collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date. Material changes would be described rather than quietly substituted.
